- Glass Fishing
Net Floats -

These salvaged, original, hand-blown glass fishing floats
were used from the 1800s through the late 1960s
when they were phased out by molded plastic floats.

What do we mean when we describe
a vintage glass float
 as "clean" versus having "growth"?

These are all salvaged glass floats.  Period.
Most have newer netting than what once held them pre-1960s.
Some have more patina than others.
Patina can include barnacles, calcium, sediment, dirt,
grime or even bird poo.  Don't be turned off - they lived
outside in the ocean and it's part of their story!
For folks that plan on sipping their morning coffee under one, though, perhaps a "cleaner" one is preferred in case anything dislodges.  The choice is up to you.

Two 12" salvaged glass fishing net floats.
We would classify the one on the right as being
"on the cleaner side" and the one on the left as
"having more growth".

The same two floats, rotated a bit to show the "button" on the bottom - where most growth accumulates.
Again, the one on the left has more growth.
